The following measures record visitor arrivals and economic impact
Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates – available on MBIE website
The MRTEs provide regional stakeholders with dollar estimates of tourism expenditure at a detailed regional level (i.e. by regional council, territorial authority, visitors’ country of origin and industry). Dollars spent is measured by dollars spent in accommodation, food and beverage services, retail sales, retail sales fuel, other tourism products and other passenger transport. A range of data sets can be downloaded from the MBIE website.
Accommodation Survey – available on MBIE website
The Accommodation Survey (also known as the Commercial Accommodation Monitor) provides information about short-term commercial accommodation activity at national, regional, and lower levels. Statistics include guest night numbers, capacity, and occupancy rates. Archive data from all previous reports is available for download.

The International Visitor Survey (IVS) measures the expenditure, characteristics and behaviours of international visitors to New Zealand. Quarterly Tourism Reports bring together a range of tourism releases to produce a narrative of the performance of the tourism sector over the last quarter and year.
